In the time since members of the Class of 2030 were born, artificial intelligence has advanced from barely recognizing a human face in a photograph to creating convincing images and videos of people—real or imagined—doing nearly anything. In just the past few years, the acceleration in the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) has been astonishing, leaving nearly everyone who works with them wondering about the limits of their powers, dangers, and utility. The pace of change is now so fast that even experts are asking a basic question: What can AI do now, really? In this seminar, we will take that question seriously and explore it by applying current AI models to real problems. Students will suggest areas for inquiry across science, policy, economics, health, the arts, or everyday life, motivated by their own interests.
